ORGANIC CLOTHING We produce stylish Organic Branded Clothing that helps build brand recognition, improve CSR and boost sales. Conventional cotton production although slightly cheaper is energy intensive and uses huge amounts of harmful pesticides together with chemical fertilisers. This seriously damages the environment. We believe our Organically produced Clothing is a much needed affordable and ethical alternative. So before you order your next run of T shirts, Polo Shirts, Sweatshirts and Caps etc think what you gain in looking good and making difference? We are able to supply this fine range of cotton clothing, plain or printed. All our organic t-shirts are sourced in accordance with fair trade principals from a project in Northern India. The farmers are paid a premium for their cotton and a number of social projects are taking place within the community to ensure that the benefits of the additional income are felt by all members of the community. Minimum environmental impact - our supplier works hard to minimise their environmental footprint - everything from the textiles they use (organic cotton) to the processes involved in making the clothing is put to the environmental footprint test - if they think it's leaving too big a footprint then its doesn't pass the test and doesn't get the organic tag. How Organic Cotton can help combat Climate Change Organic farming methods can help combat Climate Change. In many developing countries where labour is plentiful, such as India, Africa and Turkey, organic cotton is more likely planted and harvested by hand, without mechanization. Organic farming also does not use petroleum based chemical fertilizers, chemical pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides, and so is less reliant on fossil fuels. Organic farming often has better water management, in particular better irrigation, one of the primary environmental concerns of cotton farming. Most organic cotton projects in irrigated areas are often pioneering best water management practices such as drip-irrigation. Organic cotton projects around the world often go beyond organic standards, and demonstrate that cotton can be grown in an environmentally sustainable manner. Did you know? Dead Zones Chemical fertilizer from intensive conventional agriculture seeps into waterways and eventually the ocean causing massive ‘dead zones’ where nothing can live... “Humankind is engaged in a gigantic, global experiment as a result of the inefficient and often overuse of fertilizers, the discharge of untreated sewage and rising emissions from vehicles and factories,” Klaus Toepfer said in a statement accompanying the report. Toepfer noted that 146 dead zones — most in Europe and the U.S. East Coast — range from under a square mile to up to 45,000 square miles. "Unless urgent action is taken to tackle the sources of the problem," he said, "it is likely to escalate rapidly." These "dead zones" are caused by an excess of nitrogen from farm fertilizers, sewage and emissions from vehicles and factories. In what experts call a “nitrogen cascade,” the chemical flows untreated into oceans and triggers the proliferation of plankton, which in turn depletes oxygen in the water. The most infamous zone is in the Gulf of Mexico where the Mississippi River dumps fertilizer runoff from the Midwest. Others have appeared off Europe, South America, China, Japan, southeast Australia and New Zealand. "What I think we are seeing is a tipping of the balance of the ecosystem," said Jack Barth, a professor of oceanography at Oregon State. DEAD ZONES - read more... click here (http://disc.gsfc.nasa.gov/oceancolor/scifocus/oceanColor/dead_zones.shtml ) Phil Charles, director of Continental puts it into context, "Think of the pond where you used to catch tadpoles as a child. Now if that pond still exists, if that land hasn't been turned into a housing estate, or car park for a supermarket development, then it's probably a stagnent pool by now with some plastic carrier bags, a rusting supermarket trolly (the supermarket was built in the next field), and an oily slick on top. Now imagine we do the same thing to our oceans? Dead zones, drag nets destroying marine habitats, overfishing, oil slicks, industrial pollution, heavy metal poisions accumulating in the food chain, extinction of marine species; the list of marine environmental disasters is endless and growing, but all this is a day out at the beach compared to what will happen if the ocean's temperature rises by the expected 2 degrees because of global warming.
